A STUDY BY THE ST. LOUIS POLICE DEPARTMENT ON BETTER TRAFFIC ANALYSIS WITH THE USE OF A COMPUTER CONTROLLED PLOTTER.
Abstract
THROUGH THE USE OF A PLOTTER, THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WOULD BE ABLE TO ILLUSTRATE ACCIDENT PATTERNS ON MAPS. THE COMPUTER'S ABILITY TO AUTOMATICALLY SCALE DISTANCES, ROTATE AND OFF-CENTER COORDINATE LOCATIONS WOULD PERMIT MAPS TO BE PRODUCED ON A BEAT, POLICE DISTRICT, AREA (THREE DISTRICTS), OR CITY WIDE BASIS. ACCIDENT PATTERNS COULD BE FURTHER DEFINED BY HOURLY SPANS, BY WATCH, DAY OF THE WEEK OR ANY GREATER PERIOD DESIRED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
