MATHEMATICAL MODEL IS PROPOSED TO ASSESS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POLICE EFFICIENCY, THE DECREASE IN CRIME, AND THE NUMBER OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN 'CRIME PRONE' AGE GROUPS.
Abstract
IN QUESTIONING THE SUGGESTED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POLICE EFFICIENCY AND A DECREASE IN CRIME, THE AUTHOR COMPARES THE NUMBER OF BREAKING AND ENTERING CRIMES PREDICTED BY A MATHEMATICAL EQUATION INCORPORATING THE NUMBER OF YOUNG PEOPLE, WITH THE NUMBER OF BREAKING AND ENTERING CRIMES WHICH ACTUALLY OCCURRED BETWEEN 1952 AND 1967. HE CONCLUDES THAT IT IS PERHAPS WISER TO SEE WHETHER FUTURE RECORDED FIGURES ARE CONSISTENTLY BELOW THOSE PREDICTED BEFORE CONCLUDING THAT INCREASED POLICE EFFICIENCY IS HAVING A SIGNIFICIANT EFFECT.
