IMPLEMENTING A PROGRAM USING THE PRINCIPLES OF OPERANT CONDITIONING WITH EMOTIONALLY DISTURBED CHILDREN.
Abstract
OPERANT CONDITIONING IS BASED ON THE PRINCIPLES THAT BEHAVIOR FOLLOWED BY PLEASANT CONSEQUENCES TENDS TO BE REPEATED AND THAT BEHAVIOR FOLLOWED BY UNPLEASANT CONSEQUENCES TENDS TO BE AVOIDED. THE EXPERIENCE OF ONE CHILD CARE CENTER IS USED TO DISCUSS HOW TO TRAIN STAFF MEMBERS TO SELECT, DEFINE, AND RECORD A CHILD'S BEHAVIOR AND TO ARRANGE APPROPRIATE CONSEQUENCES TO ACHIEVE THE DESIRED NEW BEHAVIOR. PROBLEMS OF GROUP AND INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAMS ARE DISCUSSED, AS WELL AS PROGRAM EVALUATION, REFINEMENT, AND MODIFICATION.
