These 11 papers focus on domestic assault in black families from the perspectives of sociology, anthropology, criminal justice, and psychology.
Abstract
The papers focus on child abuse, spouse abuse, abuse of elderly persons, and family homicides, exploring how rates of physicial violence in black homes have changed in recent times and the psychosocial diffrences between black and white mothers who abuse and neglect their children. The discussions also examine violence against mothers of abused children, the effects of race on spousal violence, elder abuse in black families, patterns of marital homicide, and the characteristics of black women who kill their spouses. The discussions also focus on the implications of the latest research for designing culturally sensitive, effective treatment and prevention programs focusing on family violence.
