Abstract
SAFETY OF EMPLOYEES HAS LONG BEEN RECOGNIZED BY THE AMERICAN MANUFACTURER AS A MAJOR OBLIGATION. THE THREAT OF VIOLENCE AND OF PLANTED BOMBS TODAY CONSTITUTES A NEW ASPECT OF A CONTINUING INDUSTRIAL CONCERN OVER EMPLOYEES' SAFETY, HEALTH, AND SECURITY. THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTUERS HAS PUBLISHED THIS BOOKLET CONTAINING RECOMMENDED ACTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN RESPONSE TO BOMB THREATS AS A PUBLIC SERVICE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE WIDE DISTRIBUTION TO ALL BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, AND CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS. THIS HANDY WORK SETS FORTH AN OUTLINE OF RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES FOR HANDLING BOMB THREATS INCLUDING SECURITY MEASURES TO BE TAKEN PRIOR TO AN ACTUAL EMERGENCY SITUATION. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SWITCHBOARD OPERATORS ARE PROVIDED ALONG WITH BOMB SEARCH AND EMERGENCY EVACUATION PROCEDURES. A SAMPLE BOMB THREAT REPORT FORM TO BE COMPLETED BY THE RECEIVER OF A THREATENING CALL IS PROVIDED. AS AN AID FOR OBTAINING ASSISTANCE IN BOMB DISPOSAL FROM THE NEAREST ARMY EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DETACHMENT, THE TELEPHONE NUMBER AND ADDRESS OF EACH OF THE FIVE MILITARY EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL CONTROL CENTERS IS LISTED. A CHECKLIST DESIGNED TO PROVIDE A RAPID INVENTORY OF THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF A DEFENSE PLAN AGANIST BOMB THREATS IS FURNISHED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED) (SNI ABSTRACT)
