SUGGESTIONS MADE BY COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE WORKED WITH BORSTALS ON THE WAYS THAT 'GIVING' CAN BE TRANSLATED INTO ACTION WITHIN A BORSTAL STRUCTURE.
Abstract
SOME OF THE WAYS THAT THIS CAN BE DONE ARE: BY VIEWING THE BORSTAL AS A RESOURCE CENTER WITHIN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY; BY DEVELOPING THE 'GIVING' APPROACH INTERNALLY WITHIN THE BORSTAL THROUGH TUTORING OR BY PERMITTING GROUPS OF TRAINEES TO ADOPT OUTSIDE INTERESTS OF A SPECIFIC NATURE (SUCH AS HELPING VICTIMS OF A DISEASE, ETC.); OR BY INVOLVING THE TRAINEES IN EXTERNAL COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHEMES. PRACTICAL HELP WHICH COMMUNITY SERVICE VOLUNTEERS CAN OFFER IS ALSO DISCUSSED.
