Abstract
HISTORICAL DATA INDICATE THAT POLICE, AS AN OUTGROUP IN SOCIETY, HAVE REGULARLY FALLEN VICTIM TO THE GOVERNMENT WHICH EMPLOYED THEM AND TO THE CITIZENS WHOM THEY SERVED. ASIDE FROM ITS IMPORTANCE IN BOTH LAW ENFORCEMENT HISTORY AND AMERICAN HISTORY, THE BOSTON POLICE STRIKE OF 1919 IS SYMBOLIC OF THE PLIGHT OF THE POLICEMAN IN AMERICA.
