AN OPINION SURVEY REVEALED THAT A MAJORITY OF POLICE CHIEFS AND THOSE OFFICERS WITH MORE THAN 10 YEARS OF SERVICE OPPOSE A NATIONAL POLICE UNION.
Abstract
THE REASONS FOR AND AGAINST SUCH A UNION CAN BE SUMMARIZED AS FOLLOWS - THOSE WHO FAVOR IT PERCEIVE IT TO BE A VEHICLE TO PROMOTE SOLIDARITY AMONG THE NATION'S POLICE AND TO PROVIDE LOBBYING SERVICES, AND THOSE OPPOSED TO IT ARE CONCERNED WITH THE POSSIBLE MISUSE OF POWER IN AN ORGANIZATION OF THAT SIZE.
