Abstract
A HISTORY OF THE RESIDENTIAL YOUTH CENTER (RYC) TRACES ITS DEVELOPMENT SINCE 1966. THE YOUTH BEING SERVED ARE DESCRIBED IN TERMS OF BACKGROUND, EDUCATION AND REFERRAL SOURCES. TWO FOLLOW-UP STUDIES REVIEW AND ANALYZE THE RESULTS OF THE RYC EXPERIENCE ON ENROLLEES OF THE PAST THREE YEARS. THE SECTION ON STAFF DESCRIBES THE CONCEPTUAL THEORY OF STAFF COMPOSITION, TRAINING, INTERACTION, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND PERFORMANCE. AN EXAMINATION OF THE SETTING INCLUDES A LOOK AT PEER PHYSICAL PLANT. ONE CENTER WORKER WAS OBSERVED THROUGHOUT ALL HIS ACTIVITIES FOR ONE DAY, AND AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO RECORD ALL THE WORKER FELT AND EXPERIENCED DURING THIS TIME. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RYC AND COMMUNITY PROGRESS, INC., THE AGENCY THROUGH WHICH IT IS FUNDED, IS EXPLAINED. VARIOUS CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ARE FURNISHED. THE APPENDICES INCLUDE A DESCRIPTION OF ONE DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE RYC DIRECTOR, RESEARCH FORMS USED AT THE CENTER, AND LOGS RECORDED BY VARIOUS STAFF MEMBERS DURING THE RESEARCH YEAR.
