Abstract
Burglary is defined as the unlawful entry into habitable dwellings for purposes of committing theft or other felonies. Burglary also applies to suspects who enter buildings with intents to breach safes or vaults. To be considered a burglary, the building must be reasonably secure and have four walls and a roof. Factors in a first-degree burglary include: (1) night entries, (2) carrying or acquiring a dangerous weapon during the entry, and (3) assault on the person of another during the entry. Corpus delicti is established by (1) physical evidence that the dwelling has been broken into, (2) evidence that a means for quick exit has been prepared, (3) evidence that items of value have been assembled near the point of exit, (4) evidence that the method of operations of a 'knocking burglar' has been used, (5) evidence that a suspect entered an establishment carrying a burglary device such as a booster box. The participant workbook includes a unit overview, supplementary activities, and test questions. An instructor's answer key is also provided. The packet is designed to be used for individualized instruction.
