The Service de la Police of Laval, located near Montreal, Canada, uses Pro-teK information management software from Cogbec, Inc., of Montreal to provide computer-aided dispatch and incident reporting/record management.
Abstract
A geocode feature combines population information taken from the most recent census with geographic information such as street location, intersection, and addresses. The personnel and deployment plan interface to help make more accurate schedules. The deployment plan takes massive amounts of information from the personnel module and combines it with the geocode to assign several hundred officers, by badge number, to one of 130 units patrolling 21 sectors. It also contains secondary and tertiary backup responsibilities. The incident-reporting module enables officers to create and use standard, on-screen forms and manage the data and statistics. The system searches for all possibilities, even when information such as a street name is incorrectly spelled or has several spelling possibilities. Other computer-aided operations being explored by the department are the use of laptop computers in patrol cars for officer direct communication with information systems and the use of a computer to send messages to victimized businesses regarding case progress and resolution.
