Abstract
DISCUSSED ARE THE LEGAL BASIS FOR THE NATIONAL PAROLE SYSTEM, THE RELATION OF PAROLE TO THE SENTENCE PASSED BY THE COURT, AND BOARD POLICY IN PAROLE ADMINISTRATION. AN EXAMINATION OF THE PROCEDURES PRECEDING BOARD DECISIONS CONSIDERS BOTH PENITENTIARY AND PRISON CASES. THE THREE MAIN ASPECTS OF PAROLE SUPERVISION COVERED INCLUDE SERVICE AND ASSISTANCE, TREATMENT AND SUPPORT, AND CONTROL AND SURVEILLANCE. NEW PROGRAMS (SUCH AS MANDATORY SUPERVISION AND TEMPORARY OR DAY PAROLE) AND RESEARCH AND PILOT PROJECTS SPONSORED BY THE PAROLE SERVICE ARE ALSO EXPLAINED.
