This book examines cannabis production and distribution in Europe.
Abstract
This book provides an overview of cannabis production and distribution in Europe. Chapter 1 reviews the origins of cannabis and its diffusion, including morphology and anatomy. Also provided is an analysis of production issues, including cultivation and processing for consumption. Chapter 2 provides an overview of the source countries for cannabis imported into Europe, focusing on cannabis production in and exportation to Europe from the five regions and countries most often mentioned as a source: North Africa, south-west Asia, the Balkans, Lebanon, and sub-Saharan Africa. Chapter 3 describes cannabis production in Europe, including a typology of cannabis growers and their motivations. Distribution is addressed and an analysis of issues related to transactions and prices is presented. Chapter 4 addresses Cannabinoids contents, issues affecting the sampling, and quantitative analysis of THC in cannabis products. Chapter 5 focuses on cannabis consumption, starting with an overview of the situation and trends in cannabis use in Europe. Chapter 6 examines differences in the legislations controlling cannabis cultivation and supply in Europe, and an analysis of data on cannabis offenses reported by law enforcement, as well as seizures across Europe.
