Abstract
THE BIBLIOGRAPHY WAS PREPARED TO MEET A NEED EXPRESSED BY LIBRARIANS AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERSONNEL ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND SHOULD ALSO BE OF INTEREST TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, RESEARCHERS, AND WOMEN CONTEMPLATING CAREERS IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. IT UPDATES LENWOOD DAVIS'S THE POLICEWOMEN IN AMERICAN SOCIETY, ALSO AVAILABLE FROM VANCE BIBLIOGRAPHIES, THAT COVERED POLICEWOMEN FROM THE EARLY 1900'S TO 1973. PUBLICATIONS ARE ARRANGED UNDER THE FOLLOWING HEADINGS: BOOKS, REPORTS, PAPERS, ARTICLES, DISSERTATIONS AND THESES, FILMS, AND BIBLIOGRAPHIES. MANY OF THE DOCUMENTS CITED ARE PART OF THE COLLECTION OF THE NATIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFERENCE SERVICE. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY CITES THE MOST IMPORTANT STUDIES CONDUCTED IN THE U.S. AND ABROAD ON WOMEN POLICE SINCE 1973. BRIEF ABSTRACTS ARE GIVEN IN THE BIBLIOGRAPHY FOR MANY OF THESE STUDIES. (MJW)
