DISCUSSION OF THE PLANS FOR AN EXPERIMENTAL MODEL TRIAL COURT FACILITY TO BE DEVELOPED AT THE MCGEORGE SCHOOL OF LAW TO TEST THE MOST EFFICIENT DESIGN FOR MODERN COURTS.
Abstract
EXPERIMENTATION AND STUDY ARE PLANNED IN SIX MAJOR AREAS: COURT DESIGN AND EVIDENCE PRESENTION; COURT SECURITY; EXPERIMENTATION WITH TELEVISING TRIALS; USE OF CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION OF TRIALS TO PUBLIC VIEWING ROOMS; USE OF VIDEOTAPE AS TRIAL RECORDS; AND THE ROLE OF POLICE OFFICERS AND THE FEASIBILITY OF A PROGRAM TO TRAIN OFFICERS TO MORE EFFECTIVELY CARRY OUT THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES. THE INNOVATIVE FEATURES TO BE INCLUDED IN THE COURTROOM OF THE FUTURE ARE DESCRIBED AND A DIAGRAM IS PRESENTED OF THE PRELIMINARY PLANS FOR THE COURTROOM. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE RESEARCH STUDIES DESIGNED TO ACCOMPLISH OR SUPPLEMENT THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM.
