Abstract
THE WEST GERMAN FEDERAL CRIMINAL POLICE BUREAU (BKA) IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF INTERNATIONALLY ORGANIZED ILLEGAL DEALINGS IN WEAPONS, AMMUNITION AND EXPLOSIVES, IN NARCOTICS, AND IN THE PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION OF COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY. UNDER RECENT LEGISLATION, THE BKA CAN INSTITUTE ACTION IN SUCH CASES OF ITS OWN ACCORD. IN ADDITION, THE BKA MAY INSTITUTE INVESTIGATIVE ACTION WHEN REQUESTED TO DO SO BY A COMPETENT STATE AUTHORITY OR WHEN ORDERED TO DO SO FOR IMPORTANT REASONS BY THE FEDERAL MINISTER OF THE INTERIOR. --IN GERMAN
