STUDY OF 77 JUVENILES BETWEEN 16 AND 18 WHO APPEARED IN JUVENILE COURT IN BRUSSELS FOR PROPERTY OFFENSES IN 1969, IN TERMS OF DELINQUENCY FACTORS, AND 88 FORMER OFFENDERS THREE YEARS OLDER, IN TERMS OF INTEGRATION INTO SOCIETY.
Abstract
THE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED THROUGH PERSONAL INTERVIEWS. TWO SETS OF QUESTIONS WERE USED, ONE FOR THOSE STILL IN SCHOOL AND ONE FOR THOSE WHO WERE WORKING. QUESTIONS WERE CONCERNED WITH SOCIAL BACKGROUND, EDUCATION, ATTITUDES, ETC. TWO CONTROL GROUPS WERE USED, ONE OF 60 NONDELINQUENTS 16 TO 18 YEARS OLD AND ONE OF 72 NONDELINQUENTS AVERAGING THREE YEARS OLDER. STATISTICS WERE COMPILED FROM THE RESPONSES AND THEN ANALYZED. AMONG OTHER THINGS, IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE OLDER DELINQUENTS WERE LESS WELL INTEGRATED INTO SOCIETY THAN THE CORRESPONDING CONTROL GROUP OF NONDELINQUENTS. IT WAS ALSO CONCLUDED THAT THE OLDER DELINQUENTS WERE BETTER INTEGRATED INTO SOCIETY THAN THE YOUNGER ONES. THE LISTS OF QUESTIONS USED ARE GIVEN IN AN ANNEX. -- IN DUTCH, WITH LISTS OF QUESTIONS IN FRENCH
