ANALYSIS OF CAUSE AND EFFECT RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF THE NATURE OF ARMED BANK ROBBERY, ITS PERCEPTION AND REPRESSION BY CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, AND THE ACTUAL NATURE OF THE OFFENSE AND OFFENDERS.
Abstract
THE STUDY CONCLUDES THAT THE ACTUAL SOCIAL DANGER AND IMPORTANCE OF THIS TYPE OF CRIME IS CONSIDERABLY LESS THAN IT IS PERCEIVED TO BE BY THE PUBLIC, THE MASS MEDIA, POTENTIAL VICTIMS, AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM. THE ANALYSIS WAS BASED ON STUDIES IN BELGIUM AS WELL AS OTHER EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND THE UNITED STATES. --IN FRENCH
