Abstract
THIS IS ONE REPORT IN A SERIES BASED ON EFFORTS PERTAINING TO COMPUTER-BASED MUNICIPAL INFORMATION SYSTEM RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT. INCLUDED ARE DISCUSSIONS ON CRIME REPORTING AND CONTROL, FIELD OPERATIONS, POLICE ANALYSIS AND PLANNING, TRAFFIC INCIDENT COVERAGE, AND PERSONNEL SELECTION AND TRAINING. INTENDED TO SERVE AS A BASIS FOR THE DESIGN OF MODULES RELATED TO THE SUBJECT AREA, THIS DOCUMENT PROVIDES AN IN-DEPTH OPERATIONAL DISCUSSION OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES DEFINED FOR THE POLICE FUNCTION AND THEIR COMPONENTS AND PROCESSES. THE DOCUMENT ALSO RELATES HOW INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY MAY BE USED IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF THESE RESPONSIBILITIES. INCLUDED ARE GRAPHIC ILLUSTRATIONS DEPICTING USER/SYSTEM INTERACTION, SYSTEM PRODUCTS AND INPUTS, USER PROCEDURES, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM AND DATA REQUIREMENTS, AS WELL AS DISCUSSIONS OF THE INFORMATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS THAT EXIST OR SHOULD EXIST BETWEEN THE POLICE FUNCTION AND OTHER CITY FUNCTIONS.
