A new chemical treatment can be used to develop latent fingerprints on objects like textile fabric, bank notes, wood, and others for which traditional fingerprinting methods are unsuitable.
          Abstract
The fingerprints are first fumed with cyanoacrylate ester and then dyed in fluorescent reagent. This treatment has several advantages: high sensitivity, ease and safety of operation, nontoxicity, low cost, and usefulness with varied light sources. Among these sources are shortwave ultraviolet lamp, argon ion laser instrument, and the trace development device designed by the authors. The new treatment has been used successfully in several serious criminal cases. Tables. (Author abstract modified)
