Abstract
THE CONTENTS INCLUDE SCOPE OF BARGAINING, DRAFTING AND SUBMITTING PROPOSALS, STAFFING LABOR AND MANAGEMENT BARGAINING TEAMS, CONDUCTING RESEARCH, BARGAINING TABLE TACTICS, IMPASSE RESOLUTION, GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE AND CONTRACT ADMINISTRATION. EXAMPLES OF CONTRACT DEMANDS, A DESCRIPTION OF THE DYNAMICS OF AN ACTUAL COLLECTIVE BARGAINING SITUATION AND AN ORIGINAL CHECKLIST FOR USE IN PREPARING FOR NEGOTIATIONS ARE ALL PROVIDED IN THIS VOLUME. ILLUSTRATIONS GRAPHICALLY DEPICT PORTIONS OF THE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING PROCESS TOGETHER WITH EXAMPLES OF COMMONLY USED REPORT FORMS AND CONTRACT PROVISIONS. A MAJOR SECTION IS DEVOTED TO A DISCUSSION OF CURRENT AND EMERGING ISSUES IN COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AS ARE CHAPTERS DEFINING COLLECTIVE BARGAINING IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND EXAMINING THE RELATIVELY NEW ROLE OF POLICE EMPLOYEE ORGANIZATIONS.
