This Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) Statistical Report for fiscal year 2001 presents detailed offender data that provides insight into the inmate population and the operation of the Colorado correctional system.
Abstract
Section I provides an overview that addresses population growth and legislative changes, population projections, a map of facilities, and departmental reported incidents and escapes. The number of offenders under CDOC supervision increased to 22,354 offenders in fiscal year 2001: 16,605 inmates, 5,475 offenders under parole supervision, and 274 offenders in the Youthful Offender System (YOS). Section II, "Inmate Population Trends," presents data on prison sentence and incarceration rates, jail backlog, facility capacities and population, and annual inmate costs. Section III, "Characteristics of Adult Prison Admissions," presents data on adult prison admissions, court commitment characteristics, commitments with enhanced sentences, need levels of court commitments, and technical returns to prison. Section IV contains data on prison releases, time served in prison, and recidivism. Remaining sections of this report provide data on inmate population characteristics; parole population characteristics; and YOS characteristics, admissions, and releases and terminations. 77 tables and appended information on security levels and population of facilities and operational capacity by facility
