RECOMMENDATIONS FOR JOINT LABOR-MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS FOR TREATING ALCOHOLISM AMONG WORKERS, ESPECIALLY IN ITS EARLY STAGES.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR FEELS THAT INDUSTRY HAS THE SAME RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP CONTROL ALCOHOLISM AS IT DOES ANY OTHER DISEASE THAT AFFECTS ON-THE-JOB PERFORMANCE. BY COOPERATION WITH LABOR A COMPANY CAN CREATE AN EFFECTIVE PROGRAM WHICH INSURES EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND INDUCES THE EMPLOYEE TO ACCEPT TREATMENT. THE AUTHOR ADVOCATES A JOINT PROGRAM OF EDUCATION, REFERRAL, AND FOLLOW-THROUGH WORKED OUT BY A COMPANY'S MANAGEMENT AND THE UNIONS INVOLVED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
