This Spanish translation manual, designed for use by law enforcement officers and other public officials in the field, includes the most often used phrases under a wide variety of circumstances.
Abstract
The manual is designed to promote effective communication while enhancing the users safety. The selection of topics and phrases is based on the author's own experience as a law enforcement officer; research; and interviews with hundreds of police officers, fire fighters, trainers, educators, and other public servants from the line level to the top administration. The phrases are presented first in English then in Spanish, followed by the phonetic sound with the emphasized syllable capitalized and bolded. Phrases likely to be used in arrests and potentially dangerous confrontations are listed in the front of the handbook followed by a quick reference. Various topic areas and contexts are then listed alphabetically in the table of contents, and the phrases likely to be required in these circumstances are included under each term. The phrases which ask questions are designed to be answered with a "yes" or "no." The manual is intended for use by police officers, fire fighters, educators, inspectors from many fields, interpreters, trainers, parole and probation officers, community relations departments, substance abuse counselors, corrections personnel, and courtroom personnel.
