THE PURPOSE OF THE MODEL IS TO PROVIDE A MEANS FOR INVESTIGATING ALTERNATIVE OPERATIONAL POLICIES AND STRATEGIES IN A CONTROLLED SIMULATED ENVIRONMENT.
Abstract
THIS REPORT, MARKING THE END OF THE PROJECT'S FIRST PHASE (FEBRUARY 1972-JANUARY 1973), SUMMARIZES THE TASKS PERFORMED AND THE CURRENT STATUS OF THE SIMULATION MODEL. FROM DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA POLICE INFORMATION, EXTENSIVE DATA FILES HAVE BEEN COLLECTED AND ANALYZED. A BASIC VERSION OF THE SIMULATION MODEL HAS BEEN DESIGNED, PROGRAMMED, AND VERIFIED. THE CURRENT VERSION OF THE SIMULATION CAN ASSIGN PATROL UNITS TO ANY PREPARED SET OF CALLS-FOR-SERVICE WHETHER BASED ON HISTORICAL INFORMATION OR RANDOMLY GENERATED. THE PATROL STRUCTURE REFLECTS THE ACTUAL BEAT AND DISTRICT CONFIGURATION OF WASHINGTON, D.C. BUT CAN BE MODIFIED TO REFLECT ALMOST ANY DESIRED STRUCTURE. A WIDE VARIETY OF POLICIES ARE AVAILABLE FOR TESTING. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
