NEED FOR SECURE COURT RECORDS, ESPECIALLY IN JUVENILE CASES, WITH DISCUSSION OF SECURITY BRANCHES FROM CARELESSNESS, THEFT, OR DESTRUCTION.
Abstract
VARIOUS CASES IN WHICH COMPUTER SECURITY WAS COMPROMISED THROUGH THEFT, ILLEGAL USE, AND FIRE ARE PRESENTED. THE CONCERN FOR CONFIDENTIALITY OF JUVENILE RECORDS IS DISCUSSED. HAZARDS TO COMPUTER SECURITY THROUGH THEFT OR CARELESSNESS, INADEQUATELY SHIELDED EQUIPMENT, INADEQUATE SECURITY PRECAUTIONS, OR EQUIPMENT FAILURE ARE DISCUSSED. THE SECURITY PROBLEMS PRESENTED BY TIMESHARING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING ROUTING OF INFORMATION TO THE WRONG TERMINAL OR WIRE TAPPING ARE INDICATED AS WELL. THE AUTHOR ALSO DISCUSSES THE VULNERABILITY OF THESE RECORDS TO DAMAGE THROUGH MUTILATION, CHEMICAL DESTRUCTION, OR SABOTAGE. THE USE OF COMPUTER SECURITY CONSULTANTS IS RECOMMENDED, AS WELL AS THE MAINTENANCE OF DUPLICATE RECORDS AND PROGRAMS IN A SEPARATE FACILITY AND STRICT SECURITY PROCEDURES.
