A REPORT ON THE MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS OF THIS ORGANIZATION WHICH IS DESIGNED TO GENERATE PUBLIC AWARENESS, INVOLVEMENT AND ACTION FOR THE PURPOSE OF MODERNIZING AND CHANGING CORRECTIONS IN NEW YORK STATE.
Abstract
A LISTING OF THE OFFICERS, MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, AND STAFF IS FIRST PROVIDED. ONE OF THE MAJOR ACTIVITIES FOR 1973-1974 WAS THE FORMULATION OF RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHANGES IN STATE LAWS THAT, IN THE OPINION OF THE ASSOCIATION, WOULD HELP SECURE PUBLIC SAFETY, RESTORE THE CRIMINAL OFFENDER TO A LAW-ABIDING LIFE, IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF JUSTICE, AND BETTER INSURE THAT PERSONS INVOLVED IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS ARE TREATED HUMANELY. THE OTHER MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF THE ASSOCIATION DURING THIS PERIOD INCLUDED THE ASSOCIATION'S VISIT TO AND THE EVALUATION OF THE MANHATTEN HOUSE OF DETENTION FOR MEN AND THE PRESIDENT'S SUBSEQUENT TESTIMONY TO THE NEW YORK CITY BOARD OF CORRECTION REGARDING THIS FACILITY; AND THE OPERATIONS OF THE ASSOCIATION'S CIVIL LEGAL SERVICES BUREAU, CORRECTIONAL SOCIAL SERVICES BUREAU, AND FAMILY SERVICES BUREAU. A LISTING OF THE STATE AND MAJOR CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN NEW YORK STATE AND A FINANCIAL STATEMENT ARE INCLUDED.
