Using a question-and-answer format, this volume provides statistical tables and descriptive information regarding State and Federal correctional agencies, including juvenile and adult correctional facilities as well as probation and parole in 1989.
Abstract
Information on inmate populations includes incarceration rates, inmate profiles by race and gender, inmate population projections for 1990 and 1991, sentence lengths, custody levels, death row inmates, inmate fatalities, assaults by inmates, and escapes. Data are also provided regarding the number of prisons, their capacities, and security levels; emergency release programs; future facility openings and costs; inmate programs; work and study releases granted; and AIDS in correctional facilities. Correctional personnel salaries, numbers, and training; juvenile correctional statistics; jail statistics; and data on probation and parole, including electronic monitoring and urinalysis, are also provided.
