METHODOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN STUDYING THE COSTS TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR OF THE ECONOMY OF LAW ENFORCEMENT, THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE, AND OFFENDER TREATMENT.
Abstract
THE PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY COMPLEX, SINCE CRIME CAN RESULT IN ADVANTAGES TO THE ECONOMY, AS WHEN VICTIMS BUY NEW GOODS TO REPLACE THOSE STOLEN. DEFINITIONS OF THE TERM CRIME ARE DISCUSSED. DIFFERENT TYPES OF LOSS TO THE VICTIM AND VALUATION OF LOSS, AS WELL AS PROBLEMS IN IDENTIFYING VICTIMS, ARE EXAMINED. AN ELABORATE RESEARCH DESIGN WILL BE REQUIRED SO THAT THE CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY GROUP DOING THE STUDY CAN EXAMINE THE PROBLEM COMPREHENSIVELY.
