This book contains eight papers that critically compare how prosecutors function in different legal systems from State to State in this country and across different countries.
Abstract
This book is the latest in a series of books that concentrate attention on issues specific to criminal justice. The eight papers in this book focus on how prosecutors function in different legal systems from State to State in this country and across different countries. The first paper, Prosecutors and Politics in Comparative Perspective, surveys the intellectual landscape of what is known about prosecution systems and studies. The next four papers discuss the prosecution systems in four countries: Japan, Poland, the Netherlands, and Sweden. The sixth, seventh, and eighth papers in this book examine prosecution in Washington State, the problem of persistent localism in the prosecutor services of North Carolina, and the practical problems, prosecutorial accountability, and local solutions of prosecutors in Arizona, respectively. This book is intended for use by sociologists, psychologists, criminal lawyers, justice scholars, and political scientists who wish to explore how differences in prosecutorial systems at the local, State, and national level can affect the outcome of their work.
