Data from the Uniform Crime Report for 1981 report on the number of four types of violent crime and four types of property crime committed on 310 university and college campuses throughout the Nation.
Abstract
Data are reported for the violent crimes of murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, together with the property crimes of burglary, larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. A comparison of 1981 data (nationwide) with 1980 data shows a decrease in crimes against the person, except for murder and assault; the absolute number of violent crimes is relatively small. Property crimes constitute the bulk of criminal offenses on campus. There was a decrease in the number of such crimes between 1980 and 1981. Caution is urged in comparing the data among campuses because of the varying circumstances impacting each campus. The number of police for each campus is reported by sex. The campuses are listed by State.
