This report depicts the nature, volume, and extent of crime in Michigan in 1992, based on Uniform Crime Reporting data.
Abstract
The statistics show that crime in the State decreased by 5.1 percent from 1991, the first decline since 1989. Of the violent crimes, only rape increased, while murder, robbery, and aggravated assault all fell a total of 3.1 percent. Property crimes, including motor vehicle theft, burglary, and larceny, fell by 8.5 percent in 1992. In a general overview, this report discusses the Uniform Crime Reporting system, crime factors and crime rates, urban versus rural crime, terminology used in the report, decade statistics, and data on law enforcement officers killed or assaulted. The section on State offense and arrest data tabulates statistics related to murder, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson. The final section examines offense and arrest data by county and jurisdiction.
