This is a report of crime location, frequency and type of offenses and arrests in the State of Michigan during the year 1995.
Abstract
The report includes a discussion of the Michigan Uniform Crime Reporting System, and commentary on 1995 crime data. The report is a tabulation by county of local agencies' actual reported crime. Crime rates represent the number of crimes reported for each 100,000 population. Certain terminology is used consistently throughout the report: (1) Clearance refers to the solution of a particular crime; (2) Exceptional Clearance is made when an investigation has established an offender, there is enough information to support an arrest charge, the offender's location is known, but there is a reason outside police control that prevents arresting, charging and prosecuting the offender; (3) Clearance by Arrest occurs when an offender has been identified, sufficient evidence has been obtained to formally charge the suspect, and the offender has been ordered to appear in court; and (4) Trends, which show the fluctuation from year to year and provide an additional perspective on the study of crime. Statistics are presented on law officers killed and assaulted, domestic violence, index and non-index crimes, multijurisdictional task forces, and county offenses and arrests.
