Abstract
Individual papers explain law enforcement in the two countries, pretrial screening, jury and bench trials in the United States, citizen participation in criminal justice processes in Japan, and criminal trial issues from the perspective of a Japanese defense attorney. Other papers examine efforts in the United States to address drug law offenses and white collar crimes, policing innovations such as community policing in the United States, and the substantive and procedural aspects of crime control in Japan. Additional papers also describe restitution programs in the United States, community-based corrections and victim restitution in Japan, and the Japanese correctional system. Footnotes
