Crimes by persons in positions of wealth, power, and privilege are the most severe and dangerous in terms of their harmful impact upon society.
Abstract
Criminology, however, has chosen to largely ignore white-collar and high-level criminality and to instead focus upon street crimes. Such a criminological perspective is legitimating of the governmental power structures and is ignorant of the massive and pervasive nature of crime in high places. This paper seeks to explicate some of the germane aspects of high-level criminality and to identify the crucial role that criminology must play in the study of such crimes.
