Abstract
KENT V. UNITED STATES, IN RE GAULT, IN RE WINSHIP, AND MCKEIVER V. PENNSYLVANIA ARE THE DECISIONS THAT ARE EXAMINED. ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS OF A JUVENILE'S INVOLVEMENT WITH THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM: TAKING INTO CUSTODY; SEARCHES; CONFESSIONS; DETENTION; BAIL; AND A WAIVER, BY THE COURTS, OF A JUVENILE'S JUVENILE STATUS AND THE PROTECTION IT AFFORDS. SPECIFIC CORRECTIONAL ISSUES INVOLVE TRANSFER FROM A JUVENILE TO AN ADULT FACILITY, CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT, AND THE RIGHT TO TREATMENT.
