THE EXPERIENCES OF ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY IN DEVELOPING AN INTERDISCIPLINARY LAW ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM LEADING TO A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
AN INTERDISCIPLINARY FACULTY COMMITTEE, REPRESENTATIVES FROM FUNCTIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES, AND REPRESENTATIVES FROM OTHER CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROGRAMS CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CURRICULUM. THE RESULT IS A GENERALISTIC, INTERDISCIPLINARY, AND ENTIRELY ACADEMIC PROGRAM. CORE COURSES INCLUDE THOSE COVERING: THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, REHABILITATION OF THE OFFENDER, RESEARCH AND STATISTICS, LAW AND SOCIAL CONTROL, CRIMINAL JUSTICE THEORY, AND DISCRETIONARY JUSTICE. ELECTIVE COURSES OUTSIDE THE DEPARTMENT RANGE FROM THOSE DEALING WITH THE LEGAL SYSTEM TO ADMINISTRATION AND SOCIOLOGICAL PROCESSES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
