The Dutch Section of the International Association of Penal Law (IAPL) and Utrecht University organized this preparatory colloquium for the 16th Congress of the IAPL to focus on the topic of organized crime and international cooperation.
Abstract
Thirteen countries were represented in the colloquium: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Uruguay, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, and the United States. In addition, representatives of the European Union and the Europol Drug Unit also participated in the colloquium. National reports were made available during the colloquium by all of the 13 participating countries except Croatia and Uruguay. The colloquium focused on the responses of national criminal justice systems to organized crime, organized crime prevention, types of organized crime, the extra-territorial jurisdiction of international criminal law, police and judicial cooperation, and the legal position of the individual in international cooperation. Resolutions were drafted by colloquium participants on how to deal with organized crime. Footnotes
