These statistics relate to criminal offenses recorded by the 43 police forces operating in England and Wales and to offenders who had formal police cautions or criminal court proceedings initiated against them during 1989.
Abstract
Three chapters present detailed statistics on notifiable offenses recorded by the police including assault, sexual offenses, burglary, robbery, theft and handling stolen goods, fraud and forgery, and criminal damage. One chapter deals exclusively with offenses in which firearms were used or stolen, while another covers various aspects of homicides. The final four chapters relate to offender characteristics and statistics on cautions and convictions, court proceedings, sentencing, and use of police bail and court remand. 122 tables, 41 figures, and 7 appendixes
