TRENDS IN DRUG RELATED CRIME IN POLAND ARE EXAMINED USING DATA GATHERED FROM POLICE RECORDS AND COURT FILES.
Abstract
IN THE FIRST PART OF THIS ARTICLE, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES DRUG ABUSE TRENDS AS EVIDENCED IN AVAILABLE POLICE STATISTICS. CRIME IN GENERAL WAS FOUND TO HAVE INCREASED BETWEEN 1970 AND 1973. DRUG RELATED CRIMES WERE FOUND TO HAVE UNDERGONE A LARGE INCREASE NEAR THE END OF 1973. IN THE SECOND PART OF THIS ARTICLE, THE AUTHOR ANALYZES DATA COLLECTED FROM COURT FILES. A SAMPLE OF EIGHTY-FOUR PERSONS SENTENCED FOR DRUG OFFENSES BY THE COURTS OF GDANSK AND WARSAW WAS ANALYZED. RESULTS INDICATE THAT THE AVERAGE AGE OD DRUG ABUSERS IS BETWEEN 18 AND 21, AND THE PROPORTION OF MALES TO FEMALES IS 4.6 TO 1.
