Abstract
THE AUTHOR REPORTS THE RESULTS OF A STUDY TOUR OF DUTCH AGENCIES, INCLUDING A YOUNG PEOPLES' ADVICE CENTER, A LEGAL CONSULTATION BUREAU FOR ARRESTED PERSONS, REHABILITATION SOCIETIES, A PENITENIARY CAMP, A PSYCHIATRIC OBSERVATION CLINIC, AND A SPECIAL GOVERNMENT CLINIC. HE TAKES PARTICULAR NOTE OF THE USE OF SMALL GROUP TREATMENT, THE ABANDONMENT OF PSYCHO-THERAPEUTIC PRETENSIONS IN SOCIAL WORK AND EMPHASIS ON REALLY PRACTICAL HELP, THE USE OF PSYCHIATRIC AND SOCIAL WORKER TEAMS TO HELP BOTH DELINQUENTS AND THE MENTALLY DISTURBED. THE EMPHASIS ON GOOD COMMUNICATIONS, AND THE LACK OF INTEREST IN PUNISHMENT, AND THE GENERALLY MORE INTEGRATED AND SUPPORTIVE SOCIAL STRUCTURE.
