Abstract
CHARACTERISTICS OF STRESSFUL SITUATIONS THAT RESULT IN A CRISIS REACTION ARE DISCUSSED ALONG WITH COMMON REACTIONS TO STRESS. THE BASIC ELEMENTS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO DEALING SUCCESSFULLY WITH A PERSON IN CRISIS ARE EXPLAINED WITH PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON IMPLICATIONS FOR THE POLICE INVESTIGATOR HANDLING A VICTIM OF RAPE. A CASE HISTORY OF A MORE-OR-LESS TYPICAL RAPE CASE IS EXAMINED.
