HIGHER ACADEMIC STANDARDS ARE RECOMMENDED FOR PRESENT MEMBERS OF THE BRITISH POLICE SERVICE.
Abstract
POLICE OFFICERS NEED TO BE BETTER EQUIPPED TO DEAL WITH A MORE HIGHLY EDUCATED PUBLIC. THE HOME OFFICE MUST ASSURE UNIFORMITY OF PROCEDURE AND QUALITY IN THE PROGRAMS. AN OFFICER MIGHT COMBINE ATTAINING THE DEGREE WITH GAINING PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE ON THE JOB. THE MANPOWER SHORTAGE WOULD LIMIT PARTICIPATION TO A FEW HUNDRED MEN AT A TIME.
