FINDS THAT DELINQUENCY RATE IS HIGH COMPARED TO THAT OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC, THAT A HIGH PROPORTION OF CHARGES WERE FOR MINOR OFFENSES, AND A HIGH PERCENTAGE WERE FOR ALCOHOL-RELATED OFFENSES.
Abstract
THE COHORT STUDIED CONSISTED OF INDIVIDUALS WHO BECAME EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE DURING FISCAL YEAR 1971. THE DATA WERE DERIVED FROM THE JUVENILE OFFICER'S RECORDS, WHICH INDICATE ANY OFFICIAL CONTACT AND OFFENSES OF THE YOUTH WHILE UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE COURT OF INDIAN OFFENSES. OF THE 205 CHARGES AGAINST THESE JUVENILES, THIRTY-ONE PERCENT WERE FOR ALCOHOL RELATED OFFENSES, INVOLVING PUBLIC INTOXICATION, MINOR IN POSSESSION, AND DRIVING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE.
