This article discusses the importance of using a labeled model, built by a bloodstain analyst, to assist in court testimonies.
Abstract
An ideal demonstrative aid in the field of bloodstain pattern analysis would be a theoretical model that passes the test of admissibility and acceptability before the courts, the article describes such a model. Measuring 12 by 16 inches, the bloodstain pattern model consists of 8 different shaped impact bloodstains. Following a series of photographs depicting the bloodstain pattern model, the article describes the specific types of knowledge needed by an individual in order to analyze bloodstain patterns. Blood stain pattern analysts must gain knowledge through hands on experience at crime scenes, the article notes that it is important to remember that such analysis is subjective. The author indicates that labeled bloodstain pattern models will enhance an analyst’s testimony before the court by providing visual prompts and tangible thoughts to otherwise abstract concepts. 3 Figures, bibliography
