DESCRIPTIONS OF THE PROJECT, THE FIVE GROUP HOMES, TYPES OF CLIENTS AND HOME ACTIVITIES ARE PROVIDED, AND INFORMATION WAS GATHERED THROUTH MONITORING VISITS, A REPORT ON THE PROJECT, AND DISCUSSIONS WITH THE DIRECTOR.
Abstract
THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF FIVE HOMES HOUSING YOUTHS FROM 10 TO 18 YEARS OF AGE, MOST BEING MULTIPLE RECIDIVISTS. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PROJECT CLIENTS ARE LISTED IN TABLE FORM, AND INCLUDE AGE, SEX, AND RACE. AMONG THE MAJOR PROGRESS AREAS LISTED FOR THIS PERIOD ARE AN UPGRADING OF THE FACILITIES, IMPROVED STAFFING, AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM WHICH WILL PROVIDE OPERATIONAL DATA NEEDED FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES. THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO REDUCE RECIDIVISM RATES IN ROBBERY, BURGLARY AND ASSAULT OF THE GROUP BY 25-35 PERCENT DURING A SIX MONTH TO ONE YEAR FOLLOW-UP PERIOD. REARREST RATES FOR THE GROUP ARE PRESENTED IN TABLE FORM, SHOWING A 50 PERCENT RATE FROM DATE OF PLACEMENT TO DECEMBER 1, 1973.
