Abstract
DATA IS PROVIDED IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: AUTHORITY, DATA OF CREATION, DATE OF LATEST STAUTE OR RULE CONSULTED, MEMBERSHIP, MANNER OF APPOINTMENT, TENURE, COMPENSATION, FUNCTION, DUTIES, AND POWERS. THE INDIVIDUAL STATE STATUTES RELATING TO JUDICIAL COUNCILS AND CONFERENCES ARE ALSO REPRODUCED. THIRTEEN RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING THE COMPOSITION AND OPERATION OF THE 'IDEAL' JUDICIAL COUNCIL ARE PRESENTED. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS INDIVIDUAL STATE DESCRIPTIONS OF JUDICIAL COUNCILS AND CONFERENCES TAKEN FROM THE 1973 NATIONAL SURVEY OF COURT ORGANIZATION AND A TABULAR CONPARISON OF THE COUNCILS AND CONFERENCES IN THE TEN STATES SAMPLED.
