DISCUSSION OF ARIZONA POLICE CADET TRAINING PROGRAM FOR INDIAN MEN AGED 16 TO 20 YEARS.
Abstract
THE PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO SEARCH EACH RESERVATION FOR COMMUNITY-ORIENTED YOUTHS AND TO PLACE THEM IN A TRAINING SITUATION AT AN EARLY AGE TO DEVELOP THEIR POTENTIAL IN THE FIELD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE. THE TRAINING PROJECT AIMS TO DEVELOP LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL AND COMBAT SOME OF THE PROBLEMS INHERENT IN RESERVATION LIVING. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED NOT ONLY AS A YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM, BUT IS ALSO AN EXCELLENT DELINQUENCY PREVENTION PROGRAM. THE SCOTTSDALE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS AGREED TO OPERATE THIS PROJECT ON A CONTINUING BASIS AND WILL TRAIN AN ESTIMATED 20 INDIAN YOUTHS EACH YEAR.
