LISTING BY STATE OF THE DEGREE GRANTING INSTITUTIONS WHICH OFFER PROGRAMS IN POLICE SCIENCE.
Abstract
THE 1972-1973 DIRECTORY REFLECTS AMERICA'S INCREASING INTEREST IN LAW ENFORCEMENT EDUCATION. IN THE SPRING OF 1967, THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE ASSEMBLED ITS FIRST LISTING OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROGRAMS AND THE NUMBER OF DEGREE-GRANTING INSTITUTIONS WHICH EXISTED IN THE FIELD OF POLICE SCIENCE. THE RESULTING 1966-1967 DIRECTORY SHOWED 184 INSTITUTIONS ISSUING LAW ENFORCEMENT DEGREES, WITH 152 ASSOCIATE, 39 BACCALAUREATE, 14 MASTERS, AND FOUR DOCTORATE DEGREE PROGRAMS AVAILABLE. IN COMPARISON, THE PRESENT DIRECTORY LISTS A TOTAL OF 515 INSTITUTIONS OFFERING 505 ASSOCIATE, 211 BACCALAUREATE, 41 MASTERS, AND NINE DOCTORATE DEGREES. THE DIRECTORY LISTS THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS BY STATE, GIVING THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF EACH INSTITUTION, THE TYPE OF DEGREE OFFERED, WHETHER THE SCHOOL HAS DAY AND/OR EVENING CLASSES, AND THE POINT OF CONTACT FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT EACH PROGRAM.
