This journal provided articles on violence and the analyses of social and urban disorders within French communities and neighborhoods.
Abstract
Five articles presented examinations of violence and social and urban disorders in France and those factors, related to these disorders, that impacted on area neighborhoods and communities (typically low-income families and immigrants), such as police control and school crime. In addition, the studies addressed the potential for stigmatization and discrimination of those individuals and groups within low-income neighborhoods. The five articles included: (1) Violence and Anti-social Behavior: from Expert Rhetoric to the Common Reality of Crime; (2) Police Expertise in "Urban Violence"; (3) The Neighborhood of the School? Adolescent Deviance and Sociability in a Junior Secondary School of the Urban Periphery; (4) Dealing in the Hood; and (5) Violence and Its Avatars in Vulnerable Neighborhoods.
